No ‘luxury’ here

We were given this little mini moon gift by my mother in law. Despite the Covid restrictions we decided to book the voucher before it expired and my husband and I were excited about a break.
The photographs of the venue imply the hotel is set in a beautiful period building, but this is not correct. The hotel is next to the nice building.
When trying to book, I emailed but got no response and then called many times but got through to ‘tesco mobile’ when I finally got through I got cut off and nobody got back to me. I called back the following day and managed to speak to somebody. He initially booked a standard room and when I pointed out the voucher said a superior room he moved us to a ‘superior’ room.
The room superior room has a lovely shower but that is about it. The walls are extremely thin and contractors stay at the hotel so from 6am onwards we were woken as our ‘superior’ room was next to a hallway door that was being opened and closed often. The mattress was awful, and thin, and it was as though the springs had gone altogether.
The ‘dinner with fizz’ was microwaveable pub good and we were not offered fizz, in fact, they didn’t have a wine list so we ordered a bottle of Malbec thinking it would be included due to there being no fizz, and we were stung with a £30 bill for a screw top watery red. Despite the current climate, the wine glasses were not clean and had visible lipstick marks.
The bar and restaurant had no atmosphere and the food was not good.
The pool was out of use.
All in all, if we had not had a few glasses of wine, we would have driven home and not considered staying there.
Extremely disappointed that we wasted our ‘luxury night away’ on this hotel.
