Family Heritage Train Ride at Wensleydale Railway 11871374

It was a little bit sad after what I had paid for my husbands Christmas box. Unfortunately the day we had booked the line was not fully open so we only went 2.5 mile but we were not informed of this at the time of booking. I can understand work has to be carried out but if we had been told we would have rescheduled to a different time.

A rare family trip out. All the staff were very friendly, and keen to relate the history of the station, its staff, and buildings. We were disappointed that the journey does not go to Redmire this year, and was not steam-hauled, but travelled through lovely scenery. Leyburn used to be an attractive town, but now did not cater for Sunday tourists. The cafes which were open were mostly staffed by unfriendly people - not the usual Yorkshire welcome - and the man at Kim's was very rude. Still, we enjoyed the day, and you will experience a true Yorkshire welcome at all parts of the railway.

Covid restrictions and problems meant there was no steam train, and only 2 train stops available. The workers were lovely and informative at the heritage museums, trying to make the best of the situation. But it wasn't really the experience we had hoped for. It will be better when it's a full length train ride and with the steam train.

My husband is long term I’ll and never been on a steam train so I bought this as a gift towards his birthday present. It was bought in 2019 for his birthday in 2020 but with Covid I had to get it extended. We eventually went yesterday and sat on that platform as the train pulled in was the most disappointing moment ever, it was a diesel train. My birthday present for my husband was a complete flop, I was almost in tears. I actually paid more for the experience than if I paid yesterday at the station. It was such a let down and only went to 2 stations and back again. I know Covid has disrupted things but this was such a let down. I didn’t even take any photos as it was just a train, a old but just a train, nothing special whatsoever. I was so devastated, I didn’t even ask my husband how he felt as his face said it all.

Lovely train ride excellent staff

The voucher is for a steam train ride along the Wensleydale railway line from Leeming Bar to Redmire. I expected a lovely, relaxing and long train ride on an old fashioned steam train through beautiful countryside. How wrong was I! I booked the ticket as a present for my Dad and it was the biggest disappointment and waste of money. Firstly, there is ongoing work to the line meaning that the train is only running been Bedale and Scruton - a 15 minute maximum ride. Secondly, I couldn't quite believe it when an old commuter style of train pulled up at the platform. We were told by staff that it was the correct train but it felt like we boarded an old, in need of an update, train that just happened to be travelling along the line with commuter passengers. Lastly, the views for that 15 minute journey were not that of beautiful Wensleydale. We passed through Leeming Bar viewing people's gardens. There were old, run down and disused trains that were stationary along part of the route and about 5 minutes of countryside. Do not book this experience, you do not get what Buy a Gift a advertising!!

A wet and windy day but the welcome by staff/volunteers at all the stations on the route made it worthwhile. Nice to see the coal fires burning. views of the surrounding countryside very good.

A great day out with a stop at Leyburn & a short walk to the chocolate factory! Took diesel there & steam back. Love the option to do both. Can fill a full day hopping on and off at different stops so advise an earlier start. Great family day out.

Thoroughly enjoyed our day at Wensleydale Railway. Very friendly team who couldn't do enough to make sure we had a great time.
