About the experience
Enjoy a private opportunity to drive a powerful Type 4 diesel locomotive for 16 miles along the Chinnor and Princes Risborough Railway. After a welcome and safety briefing, you’ll take the controls for around two hours of driving, with full support from an experienced train driving instructor. Running light engine without carriages, this exclusive session offers an extended hands-on adventure and an authentic insight into railway operations.
What do I need to know?

- Available Monday–Sunday, year round on selected dates
- Please allow around two hours for the full experience
- Minimum age: 16 years
- Participants must be in good health – please consult your GP if unsure
- If you cannot climb from track level, boarding is possible from the platform. Wheelchairs and walking aids cannot be taken into the cab

3rd time lucky
After 2 attempts in the summer, cancelled due to poor weather conditions, it was 3rd time lucky.
The staff were very friendly and helpful on all occasions, and apologetic when cancelled.
The flight was smooth and interesting, going over the sea, over a castle and grounds etc. About 15 minutes into the flight, you take over the controls, under the guidance of the pilot.
